Argh! What's good, What's evil?!

Being a regular attendant at my Catholic church, I am accustomed to accepting facts about life the way it has been presented to me all my life. Answering questions about life, suffering, and why we were even put on earth, has always been easy if you open a bible. But recently I have snapped out of it. Surprisingly too. And I've started to put two and two together so that i have my own personal understanding about things, in order to accept my faith's truth as the TRUTH.

How in the WORLD, you may ask, is that possible?? Must one search the world for answers to every question by themselves?
Not really. Its quite simple really. Does it make SENSE? is the only question you need to ask yourself before accepting anything as the truth. That's common sense too eh?

In this post I will be addressing the question- "How can I live my life as a good human being without being affected by external media?"

Let me give you an example. Catholicism tells us to stay away from evil, and things that promote evil and the wrong moral values, issues of inappropriate sexuality, stuff like that. Take harry potter into consideration:
  VS.

YOU!!! that's what the answer is. And even though I may not be completely 100% correct when I say this, but for all the harry potter fans out there- It's you that decides!
The books, Harry Potter, demonstrate qualities of evil, lack of remorse through some of characters like Lord Voldemort, elements of magic that our faith of course does not agree with, and murder- the list continues.

YET! It demonstrates moral values, like love, friendship, bravery and courage, sacrifice and the struggle to do what's right, to achieve a greater good, for the sole purpose of helping other people and being righteous. The fact that it can demonstrate two very conflicting types of values would puzzle everyone- and has obviously created controversy worldwide.

It remains a fact that one's actions are determined by their choices and beliefs. Think about it right now, what are you firm about? What are the few things that you are passionate about? As for me, I can't stand people wasting paper, or littering, or not recycling. I also am passionate about tragedies like the holocaust or the titanic. So there you go, I'm a green freak, and a...tragedy freak? But that's what I am, and it's my beliefs that determine my actions: I would take extra measures to save/recycle paper, spend extra time for a good cause and spread awareness against discrimination. My actions would be governed by what I am firm about.

Similarly, If you choose to focus on what's right and attempt to differentiate it from what's not, you should be just fine. If you walk into a room where everyone is a sinner, as long as you are firm in your moral beliefs, you know you'll be just fine.

Coming back to Harry Potter now- being a firm Catholic, or wait, regardless of your religion, you should know what to pick out of it and indoctrinate into your life, and what to stay away from.
And now to ask our question that we touched upon before: Does that make sense??? (Does evil, magic and murder make sense? What about love, sacrifice and courage?)
You don't need me to answer THAT for you.

The bible tells us about love, sacrifice, courage etc. and does not mention magic anywhere. So there you go, your answer.

In a nutshell, CHOOSE what you want to extract from anything, and disregard whatever isn't worth it! :)
That simple isn't it? :) You bet it is.
And you'll find sticking to your morals and your gut can take you a whole long way...!
